Dartmouth Admission Stats

Dartmouth Admission Stats April 10, 2012 Andrew Lohse should be ashamed of himself. Theres a post on The Choice blog of The New York Times by Lily Altavena that asks if allegations of hazing at Dartmouth College will affect prospective students. Ms. Altavena is referring to the article in Rolling Stone in which an angry, crusading former Dartmouth student goes off on a vitriolic tirade against the College on the Hill. If you dont know about the article, read our post on Dartmouth College Fraternities. Our answer is no. Allegations of hazing at Dartmouth will not impact Dartmouths bottom line in next years admissions cycle (or in this years yield). Students and their parents are savvy enough to know that where there are fraternities, there is drinking. And there are fraternities at many colleges. Not just Dartmouth. If they actually read the Rolling Stone piece, theyd also probably realize that the former student had serious issues with the school. People arent naive. They dont think that students just read books and discuss Greek myths in fraternity basements. And if that were the case, they probably wouldnt think fraternities were cool. Who wants to discuss Greek myths on Saturday night in your prime? So, no, this article as controversial as it might be will not impact the Dartmouth admission stats. Will it help to further the College on the Hill away from its old reputation as Animal House? No. But its not going to have the impact the angry student wanted it to have.

The Geography 101 Course Essay Essay - 894 Words

Through the Geography 101 course, I have become increasingly familiar with certain concepts that are easily applicable to cities and countries that I am familiar with. These concepts help me fully understand the geographic situation occurring in these locations. One location that has been brought up many times throughout the semester and I have increased with familiarity is Japan. This location is constantly changing and growing. It exports many different vehicle and machinery parts, and is at the forefront of technology and the revolution that follows. Relation Between Various Management Free-Sample for Students

Question: Discuss how Business Management, Service Management and Value Revenue Management will assist Resort Management to achieve Organisational Goal. Answer: Introduction It is the nature of all business to maximize their respective economies of scale to an extent of going from local to international markets. It is worth noting that even while maximizing the level of productivity of the business as the cardinal objective of all enterprises, the production of quality, safe, healthy and reliable goods and services is their unmentioned obligation. In this study, the relationship that exists between business management, service management, value and revenue management and resort management will be discussed ideally to the satisfaction of the reader. Resort Management Objectives Under business resort management, what comes as the core objective is, of course, enjoying marginalized levels of profits. There are several methods that profit can be heightened without necessarily having to constraint consumers. For example, during the initial processes of production, the cost of all expenses can be cut down through product diversification. Diversification of products has the power of utilizing all the available resources that a business has prior to coming up with a finished product (Bennett, 2015). Additionally, when the new products are ready to get into the market, chances are that when consumers reject one, they can gladly accept the other. The second objective of resort management is to develop an attractive product. According to business, one of the greatest techniques that successful entrepreneurs use to beat competition that emanates from the threat of entry of new firms and those that were already in existence is product promotion. Designing a unique and quality commodity or service has the power of attracting more consumers since everyone in the current prorate world wants to go for the most recent and most fitting taste. Moreover, being able to adapt to the new tastes and preferences of consumers of different goods will do the business more justice than harm. The third objective under resort management is developing a skilled and alert workforce. In the set of codes of conduct of being great employees, all personnel is usually advised to develop great work presence such as displaying the ability to work well with others. This is contained under the principle of teamwork. Honesty and respecting each other at all times during and off from work is another critical attribute that all employers would want to see in their employees (Castelluci, 2016). Most importantly, loyalty and provision of quality goods and services form the backbone of a skilled and attentive workforce. Being in a position to respond to a clients needs in time and as requested by the specific client is what determines the professionals from the goofy ones. The final goal of business resort management is the desire to be a sustainable business entity. Wise men have it that everyone dreams of achieving success but only a handful will wake up and demonstrate all that they seek to attain by the end of every financial period. In resort management, claiming a sustainable business entry is simple but the hardest task comes in bringing into practice all the theoretical concepts of achieving success. According to Daniel Goleman, one of the greatest attributes of being a great leader is setting achievable goals and making strategic moves on how best to achieve the set goals. In other words, when the leadership of a resort set achievable goals, chances of attaining his goals run high. Business Management in relation to business resort management The role that business management plays in ensuring that resort management achieves its set objectives is the coordination of all human resource personalities. Business management specializes with the role that human resource management has to play in the general productivity of the business. An analysis of this will reveal that resort management needs to hire qualified employees that have depicted the most desirable traits of a great workforce that can work well in the prevalence of team spirit (Johnston, 2012). In other words, the purpose of business management is to hire and fire. It is prudent to note the fact that of all the objectives that business resort management has, the only one that business management is concerned with is the acquisition of a skilled and attentive workforce. In the service industry, the knowledge that each personnel has is what will determine the level of job position that he or she will occupy (Laudon, 2013). The more skilled an employee turns out to be, the higher his chances of securing a job promotion each financial year. Ideally, a steady and reliable workforce increases the chances of the business in enjoying maximized economies of scale. Service Management in relation to business resort management The ideologies or rather principles of service management uses are more or less the same as those of business management. The only difference between the two is that the former specializes on the human resource department while the latter dwells on the relationship that exists between the business and the outside world. Establishing a business entity that is devoid of any customer relations will reduce the capability of the business to improve its level of productivity (McCrea, 2013). Once this happens, chances of the business running under cannot be overruled. On that note, the objective that service management helps business resort management to attain is ensuring that it becomes a household name. According to a business perspective, a household name is more like a reliable source of whatever content is being offered. On this note, a sustainable operation would suffice just as well. As mentioned in the previous sections of this study, coming up with unique and quality commodities and services is one of the surest ways of achieving sustainable operations. Additionally, trying as much as possible to stay within the jurisdictions of the law is another way to determine the legality and authenticity of the business. Value and Revenue Management The relationship between resort management and revenue management is told during the stage of price determination. For most firms that might be trying new entries in already existing markets, being able to keep to terms with the competition, threats and demands might be a dreaded nightmare (Norman, 2013). This is where the idea of value and revenue comes into question. The two will work hand in hand to determine the approximate value that a given service needs to go based on the preparations that were put in place to ensure that the specific service got the most desired feedback from a consumer. The same applies to all goods while paying attention to all the costs involved prior to coming up with the finished product. That being mentioned, it can be deduced that the goal that this prospect helps business resort management to achieve is making maximized levels of economies of scale. References Bennett, B. (2015). Various aspect, such as the process of manufacturing, human capital, people issues, technology issues, information capital, organizational capital etc are analyzed in this perspective in Hawker Siddeley. Decision making: Lastly, the decision making process of the company has been analyzed and it has been found that the Hawker Siddeley is performing well in the market. In the process of decision making, company takes the decision about various aspects which are related to the various dilemma of the company. Than it has been found that it is required for the company to identify and analyze all thee related factor and then only the company must take the decision (Johnson, 2014). In this report and analysis over the company, it has been found that company had faced a dilemma to choose between the buying the raw material and manufacturing them into the companys plant itself. For this the buying price of the raw material has been analyzed and at the same time, it has also been identified that the how much cost would be occurred in the company if the raw material would be produced by the company. (amt in '000) Per unit Total Make Buy Make Buy Purchase price 40 40000 Direct Material 10 10000 Direct Labour 8 8000 Variable OH 9 9000 relevant Fixed OH 12 12000 Total Relevant cost 39 40 39000 40000 Difference in favour of buying 1 1000 Thus it could be said that company must buy make the product into the factory as the cost saving of AUD 1000000 will take place in that case (Fayard, Lee, Leitch and Kettinger, 2012). Further, it has been found that company had also faced a dilemma to choose between the diversifying the market or invest into the existing market. For this, various aspects have been analyzed by the managers of the company in terms of economy, information rate, FDI, competitors, feasibility etc and then a decision must be made by the manufacturing company. Through the chart, it could be said that it is better for the company to diversify its market into various other countries to manage the profit and enhance the worth of the stockholders. Conclusion: Thus through this report, it could be concluded that it is required for every company to manage and identify the various factors which could enhanced the value of the products and services of the company as well as the manufacturing company must take care the process from the process of value management starts from receiving the raw material and ends up by selling the end product to its customers. Through the analysis over the company, it has been observed that company has managed a good value chain to maximise the worth of resources and reduce the total cost of the company. Thus it could be concluded that the manufacturing companies could enhance their worth and value of stakeholders by looking over the value chain and manage it in a proper way. Esterfication essays

Esterfication essays Scientists: Christopher Inness David Coker In Organic Chemistry there is a system for naming different organic compounds, called the IUPAC naming system. There are numerous organic compounds, due mainly to the bonding abilities of carbon. Each type of carbon-carbon bond and each functional group bonded to a carbon, form different family groups; esters, alcohols and carboxylic acids are separate family groups within Organic Chemistry. Alcohols are also known as alkanols and contain a hydroxyl group (-OH). Carboxylic acids contain a carboxyl group (O=C-OH) and are also known as alkanoic acids. An alkyl group is a straight chain of carbons with one spare bond, which bonds usually to another carbon. Esters are also known as alkyl alkanoates and are a combination of carboxylic acids and alcohols. A branched chain is a straight chain of carbons with an alkyl or aryl group attached. The IUPAC naming system for naming organic compounds is as follows: 1. Find the longest continuous chain of carbon atoms, which if necessary contains the most significant functional group  ¡V this is the parent stem. (The parent stem is the most important straight chain in the compound. A functional group is a polyatomic ion or a halogen attached to a carbon.) 2. Identify any other less substantial functional groups. 3. Number the parent chain so that the functional groups and multiply bonds have the lowest possible number. 4. Use prefixes to indicate multiples of any functional groups. (2 di-, 3 tri-) 5. List the functional groups in alphabetical order followed by the parent stem. Æ’ÃÅ"  ¡, ¡ between the numbers. Human Resource Management Process Highlight any positive and negative effects of implementation. (Recruitment, Selection, Training and Development) There are a few of positive and negative effects when you are working with this company. After I done my research on this company, I found that only those who are highly educated are qualified to work in this company. For this reason, I can conclude that most of the human resources management process designed by this company, demonstrates a positive outcome. In recruitment, the positive effect shown in this company is online application. With the presence of such technology, employer can reduce their work by only contact those applicants who are granted an interview. This type of recruitment widely used because it works faster and easier. The positive selection on this company depends on the employees qualification. Basically, the selection requires at least three years of working experience. Although an employee maybe a PhD holder, experience is equally as important in order to have a job. The negative effect identified is that the probability of employing experienced employee is low compared to fresh graduates. This is because in this century, the number of unemployed fresh graduates is high. There are a few highlight positive effects about training for employees in this company. Their training process is designed to give an opportunity to all those talented and ambitious students to demonstrate their potential, to be the leaders of the future. The company are not just seeking performance, but also integrity, initiative, and a passionate commitment to the people they work with-whether theyre at the next desk or on the other side of the world. In the other hand they also had learning opportunities that teach flexible thinking skills, employment practices that support career development, benefits and rewards that reflect changing needs, and performance-based flexible work practices and policies that meet both business and personal life needs. Of course there are also had a negative effect about the worker selection on this company. For those who want to get a career on this company must a person that have a high self-confident, because this company wanted to train their wor ker to become a very strong leader ship worker as what this company requite. The positive effect can be shown on this company development when everyone who works in this company can enjoy a work-life balance. With this, you are able to have a Flexible Working Policy, which applies to all staff, covers a variety of working patterns, including home working, part-time working, annualised hours and term-time working. Of course, these kinds of flexible working options are particularly attractive to parents and care-givers. This approach is to support flexible working arrangements wherever this company can make life better for their employees, while ensuring business needs are met. While the negative effect on this company development on flexible working is employer or the manager will faced some problem when they want to give training or speak for their employee because employer need to separate it into two sections, so that it will cause more expenses and time are needed. Example of the implementation of human resource management process in GSK (Recruitment, Selection, Training and Development) After doing some research on this company regarding their recruitment, selection, training, and development process, it shows that this company is quite strong, but theres more to improve for a better. In my opinion, this company should implement new strategy on their recruitment and selection by set a higher standard recruitment. For example, for those who wanted to work in this company should have a minimum working experience of three to four years with other pharmaceutical company and at least a degree holder. With such requirement set by the company, the employees that work in the company are efficient. In addition, this company must also improve their training by instil job management skills. For example, as a result of the training given by the company, employees will possess leadership quality in them as to prevent any of the employees to cross over the moral codes of the company. Does the companys development important? It is important as it will determine the future of the c ompany. Therefore, they should improve further on their development. For example, employer should give more incentives to their employees as to reduce the frequency of absence of employees and to increase the efficiency of the employees. Subsequently, the employees will work harder for the company and it may contribute to improve the companys profit. Conclusion In a nutshell, I have learned that the human resource management is a significant asset for any company to grow and advance further in the future. Furthermore, human resource will also assist to nurture the employers and employees in their self-development, so that they will be more productive to the company. In human resource management, I have learned that, in order to work with people effectively, well have to be aware of various type of human behaviour in them, and to be knowledgeable regarding various systems and practices available in order to facilitate in building a skilled and motivated workforce.
